United Way Muscatine's Educate United Affinity group is looking for Reading Mentors for McKinley Elementary School. Reading Mentors will go to the school one time per week during a 30-Min reading block and work kids on small group basis. The children will rotate so volunteers will see all or a good portion of the kids in their assigned class each time. The Reading Mentors will read to the children and have the children read to them. Reading Mentors can bring an age-appropriate book or use one the school has. Volunteers are needed during the following times.

Monday-Friday options are available:

Kindergarten 1:55-2:25

First Grade 1:25-1:50

Second Grade 8:45-9:10

Third Grade 8:45-9:10

Reading Mentors will go to the school one time per week during a 30-Min reading block and work kids on small group basis. The children will rotate so volunteers will see all or a good portion of the kids in their assigned class each time. The Reading Mentors will read to the children and have the children read to them. Reading Mentors can bring an age-appropriate book or use one the school has. Volunteers are needed during the following times.

Kindergarten 10:30-11:00

First Grade 9:30-10:00

Second Grade 12:20-12:45

Muscatine has a Food Rescue program that runs Monday - Friday and has 2 routes per day.  This program runs rain or shine.  When volunteering for this program you go to the grocery store that you are assigned to and pick up the items that are not able to be shelved.  Then you take the items to the assigned location for distribution.  This is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity for 2 reasons, 1 you are keeping the landfill clean and 2 you are giving food to those who are in need.  For more information please contact United Way.
