Who We Are

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois helps families with sick children stay close to each other and the care they and resources they need, when they need it most. Through the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City and our Family Rooms in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, we help remove the barriers that separate families while they receive treatment for a critically ill or injured child. We’re more than just a place to stay—our House and Family Rooms provide the essential comforts of home: warm beds, hot showers, home-cooked meals, kitchen and laundry facilities, a playground, recreation areas, and more. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois welcomes families from all backgrounds, and never turns away guests due to an inability to pay.

What We Do

When a child is seriously ill or injured, many families must travel far from home to get the specialized treatment their child needs. Sometimes the treatment lasts a day or two, other times it may be weeks, months, or more—that’s a long time to be away from your home, your job, and your family. The Ronald McDonald House of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois serves these families by providing the comfort and amenities they need while their child recovers. Whether they are staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City, or one of our Family Rooms at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, we keep families together when their child needs medical care.
